Project 365
time to celebrate
That’s it … i’ve done it … a photo a day for the entire year !!!
It’s truly been a memorable experience – and a great challenge. I set out on the project to improve my photography skills (which i’ve definitely achieved) and to enhance my creativity (which I achieved some of the days … others there was no creativity at all !). I knew it would be a challenge … what i didn’t realise is how much of a challenge it would be some days, while others it just seemed to all fall into place.
Personally it’s been a bloody tough year, and doing this project has certainly been a useful distraction at times. And it’s been wonderful to tune into flickr each day and see what other 365′ers have achieved with their latest shot … so to all my flickr contacts, thank you !
Here’s to the next challenge that lies ahead … and may 2012 be a wonderful year for all.
Lighting info:
Canon 430Ex with DIY drinking straw grid pointing up & slightly behind the mirror ball, full power
Canon 580ExII, in Westcott Apollo, partially collapsed, camera left, full power
YN560, bare, camera right, 1/8th
two days
Just two days to go …. while i’ve enjoyed doing the project, it will certainly be a relief to have completed it. Not only for the feeling on not having to come up with and execute a photo every day, but because of the challenge – and it has been a challenge – but one i’ll remember. How can I forget, I’ve got 365 reminders !
So, here’s to 2 days to go.
cherry
For the last couple of years, I’ve been spoilt by wonderful clients and contacts with a box or two of cherries at Christmas. They are delicious little things. Beautiful cold and sweet, delightful on a hot summer’s day, while kicking back and relaxing on holiday.
… and a cherry macro for good times :
p.s. I couldn’t quite get the shot above right when taking it, so this is actually 3 images stitched together ‘panorama’ style in photoshop – but you’d never have guessed if I hadn’t told you.
gopro drive time
A test drive with my GoPro Hero2 camera mounted to the side of my car.
This is going to be a lot of fun.
strobist self
Way back on Day 81 I entered the strobist world, and since then I’ve found it a challenge to drag them out … but now, with a little more space, I’ve had more opportunity to play.
Tonight I thought that I’ve give a high key white a go. There are a lot of ways to do this, like lighting a white background with a couple of strobes, but I saw a novel way of doing it earlier today … shot directly towards a soft box and use it for your white … works like a charm.
A little bit of photoshop later (e.g. erasing the sides of the soft box that were just in the frame) and abracadabra !
Strobist info:
background: westcott apollo softbox, canon 580exii at 1/4th
camera right-high: westcott umbrella, canon 430ex, 1/1
camera left-low: YN560 1/16th

merry christmas
Merry Christmas ! Hopefully a day of fun, love, laughter & happiness … there haven’t been a lot of them this year.
I’m certainly going to enjoy getting stuck into these little Christmas Donuts – a joint effort by me (inadvertent ‘low fat’ donuts .. I forgot to put the butter in) and my mother-in-law (beautiful icing & decorations).
twas the night before christmas …
…. and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring,
not even a …..
bad santa
… one of the best Christmas movies ever … Bad Santa … not for everyone at this time of year, but hilariously funny all the same.
A new home for the DVD collection today – who doesn’t LOVE ikea ? All I need to do now is get everything else for the home theatre …. seats, projector or huge TV, surround sound system, popcorn machine … hmmm, it might be a while before I’m watching these in it.
old school av
Here’s a bit of old school av … in a world of HDMI, what do you do with all of these leftovers ?
blank canvas
Here’s my blank canvas …. what should I do with it (other than paint over the ugly blue wall) ?
(a) photo studio
(b) home theatre
(c) both
I’m thinking (c) …. how about …. theatre seats that can be dragged (or maybe rolled) out to the walls to open up the space; white wall or backdrop/screen to project on to AND take photos in front of; strobes, lightstands, etc around the walls when watching movies;
What would you do with a blank canvas like this ?
fibre
I’ve heard people say that you can’t have too much fibre in your diet. We’ll i’m sick of fibre .. not in my diet .. in the endless stream of cardboard packing boxes.
laced up
“You know you’re getting old when you stoop to tie yourshoelaces and wonder what else you could do while you’re down there.” George Burns
panoramic
I thought that I’d get in one last panorama before I move back out to the ‘burbs next weekend. I’ve loved living in Brisbane CBD, you just can’t beat a 5 min walk to work, but it’s time to get out of the shoebox.
p.s. just 20 days to go !
full charge
once plugged in for 24 hours, i’ll be fully charged and ready to power on for a few hours.
